GET REAL with exercise.
“How much should I exercise to reach my goals?”
The answer to this is easier than you might think. How much time can you REALISTICALLY give it a week.
We don’t deny, science, text books and the like will point you in the direction of 5 -6 times a week but the problem with that is we don’t live a text book life.
Let’s stay in the real world a little longer and factor work, family and your general must do duties, take them away from the week. From there ask the honest question “what’s left for me to put towards exercise?”.
If you are starting out and super keen for big results and have determined you can give your training 5hrs a week, try committing to 4 as a starting point.
WHY??? Because you want to know that your commitment is sustainable. You want to set up successful habits, you want to mentally and physically be winning as many weeks as possible so that you can keep building on that positivity.
Let’s look at the opposite, you say you’ll do 5 sessions and most weeks only make 4, that mentally can crush you and you’re on the back foot. Doubt, failure and other negative emotions about your effort/ability set in and that’s not where you want to live.
So here’s 3 tips to help you work out how much exercise is right for you:
- HONESTLY assess your diary across the week and weekly commitments. This is an opportunity to maybe clean up some habits that are eating into your precious time. This is your one shot at becoming smart and efficient with the time you have so reorganise and purge if you need to.
- Determine a REALISTIC commitment and go for it!
- Find time for an extra session, BONUS! Do it and jump on that feel good shit!! It’s contagious and before you know it you’ve hit your goals and setting some new ones.
