We have already spent some time giving advice on how to pick a good supplement company to go with, now we are going to discuss some of the choices specific to choosing a good Fish Oil.
Fish Oil tablets are amongst our favorite supplement to recommend to clients. Unless you get a decent serving of FRESH FATTY fish in your diet daily, you stand to benefit from including this supplement in your daily routine. Its well researched, fish oils are good for cognitive and heart health, so why wouldn’t you take it? Good for your brain, good for your heart you really can’t go wrong? BUT and this is huge caveat, you need a good quality fish oil if you want the benefits and with this product, sad to say it comes at a higher cost, so let us explain a little more.
The overarching quality of the fish oil comes down to a few factors, all with a very important role.
- Sustainability of the product fish oil is sourced
- Extraction method used, high heat and cheap processes can lead to rancidity.
- Concentration of the dose, EPA & DHA combined should be a minimum of 500mg
- Inclusion (or not) of other unnecessary ingredient to boost a label or marketing message but to no real therapeutic benefit
- Is it free from mercury, toxin and lead
If you can confidently tick all of the boxes above, you have a good product. If not, you may want to rethink your purchase decision before grabbing the next bottle.
PPT only stocks the Thorne Pharmaceutical range of supplements and their fish oil is of a standard that ticks all these boxes, in fact, if they can’t tick a box, the simply won’t produce it. There was a period of time a few years back when they product was scarce, and this came down to a quality conflict of the ingredients available, simply it wasn’t up to their standards, so they didn’t produce it.
Our clients deserved this sort of quality, as do you.
